Since earning a degree in set design from the Conservatoire d'art dramatique de Québec in 1991, Carl Fillion has worked with prominent international companies and directors and has created approximately fifty stage sets, most of which have travelled the world.

Carl Fillion became one of Robert Lepage's key collaborators after designing the set for the ground-breaking show Seven Streams of the River Ota in 1993. He has gone on to create sets for more than eighteen Lepage productions including, most recently, the new theatrical production of Needles and Opium currently on a world tour, Der Ring des Nibelungen at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Hamlet Collage at the Theatre of Nations (Moscow), Totem, a Cirque du Soleil world-tour production, and The Nightingale and Other Fables, which opened at the Canadian Opera Company (Toronto) and toured to Aix-en-Provence, Lyon, New York, and Amsterdam.

His other creations include The Damnation of Faust, which opened at the Saito Kinen Festival in Matsumoto (Japan) and was later presented at the Opéra Bastille in Paris and the Metropolitan Opera in New York; 1984 presented at the Royal Opera House of London; The Rake's Progress, which opened at La Monnaie in Brussels and toured to Lyon, Madrid, San Francisco, and London; and La Celestina presented at the Royal Dramaten Theatre in Stockholm. More recent productions include a new version of La Celestina at the Lliure Theatre in Barcelona, and the opera Simon Boccanegra at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, also in Barcelona.

One of his most recent work is Toruk, a worldwide arena tour based on James Cameron's mega-blockbuster Avatar and produced by Cirque du Soleil. A Wajdi Mouawad a Spanish production, Incendios, touring in Spain since September 2016 for 2 years.

The creations of Carl Fillion, in all the projects he participate, are always marking deeply the artistic direction of the shows, whether it is in theatre, opera or circus. That brings him naturally towards the staging, Unamuno- Vencereis pero no convencereis being his first experience as Director and designer. Produced by Theatro de la Abadia in Madrid, Unamuno is touring in Spain and Paris in 2018-2020

Carl Fillion is currently working as Set designer on a new Cirque du Soleil show for permanent residence in Hangzhou (China) 2019.

He is also preparing, as Director and Scenographer, others projects around the world for the next coming years.
